It was a night to remember for Emile Smith-Rowe on Thursday, but that didn’t stop his Arsenal team-mates from jokingly mocking him after the club’s 3-0 win over Qarabag.

18-year-old Smith-Rowe belied his tender years to net his first senior goal for Arsenal in the Europa League victory in Azerbaijan, yet was promptly reminded of his junior status in the dressing room after the match by fellow midfielder Alexander Iwobi.

In a video posted on his Instagram Story, Iwobi mocks Smith-Rowe’s boyish looks by calling him ‘cute’, with Matteo Guendouzi also sarcastically clapping after his exploits.

Unsurprisingly, the teenager cut an embarrassed figure as Iwobi sent him up in front of the camera.

Smith Rowe – aged 18 and 67 days old – became the youngest player to score for the Gunners in a competitive match since Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in September 2011.

His 53rd minute goal – his first in senior colours – doubled Arsenal’s advantage in Baku after Sokratis Papastathopoulos had given them an early lead.

Guendouzi then put the icing on the cake late on as Unai Emery’s men made it two wins from two in Group E.

And speaking after the game, Smith-Rowe revealed his delight at a perfect night at the office.

‘It feels good to have got my first goal today, and the three points as well,’ he told Arsenal’s official website. ‘It’s just a dream come true really!

‘I feel at home in this team. I train with them every day and everyone’s so welcoming. I’m just happy to be here.’

After getting off the mark for his boyhood club on Thursday, Smith-Rowe will no doubt hope to push on and feature in Sunday’s London derby away to Fulham.
