Barcelona news: La Liga giants have biggest wage bill in Europe – Top 15 clubs ranked

Barcelona have been revealed as the biggest spenders in football when it comes to player wages, according to their latest financial figures.

The La Liga champions shell out nearly double that of reigning Premier League title holders Manchester City when it comes to paying Lionel Messi and co.

Barcelona’s financial data for the 2017/18 season show a wage bill of £424million, eclipsing all their European rivals after a 43 per cent rise from the 2016/17 campaign.

The Daily Mail report that Messi’s £1.75m-a-week wages make up 15 per cent of this overall outlay as paying players now takes up nearly 70 per cent of their total turnover.
