Real Madrid plotting £90m swoop for Man United striker Marcus Rashford and Tottenham star Christian Eriksen

  • Real Madrid have not filled the hole left by Cristiano Ronaldo’s exit
  • The Spanish giants, according to reports, have been watching Marcus Rashford
  • They are lining up a £50m swoop for the Manchester United striker

The Sun, is the latest forward to emerge as a candidate to fill the void left by Cristiano Ronaldo at the Bernabeu and Madrid watched him play for England in Sunday’s win over Croatia.

Scouts have also been at United games this season although 21-year-old Rashford has made only five Premier League starts for them.

The Spanish giants, who sold former United favourite Ronaldo to Juventus for £100m in the summer, would hope to land Rashford for around half that amount.

Rashford has scored twice for United this term – against West Ham and Bournemouth – and has at times been criticised by his manager Jose Mourinho. He appears to have gone backwards under the Portuguese but the Old Trafford chief does know the importance of keeping a homegrown player. Rashford’s form for his country has been better – three goals in six games.

Madrid also want 26-year-old Eriksen and are lining up a £40m bid for a player they see as a potential long-term successor to Croatia star and former Spurs man Luka Modric.

Eriksen, who played 45 minutes of Denmark’s goalless draw with Ireland on Monday night, has 18 months left on his deal at Tottenham but talks over an extension have stalled.

The midfielder has been in negotiations since last season about an extension. He is on around £70,000 a week but has recently seen Dele Alli sign a new £150,000-a-week deal until 2024 after star striker Harry Kane also penned new terms.

Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino has also long been linked with Real Madrid but Santiago Solari has been handed the reins after a successful spell in temporary charge following the sacking of Julen Lopetegui. And Solari is an admirer of both Eriksen and Rashford,

Meanwhile, Eriksen was left frustrated after his country’s friendly stalemate with Ireland.

‘They wasted a lot of time if they could,’ Eriksen said in a post-match interview with Sky Sports. ‘They took their time on everything and they rarely went forward so it was difficult to break them down.

‘That’s why there was a few chances but normally the chances are big enough to score and to finish the game off but we didn’t. There was a lot of defending of their side and us trying to attack against 11 men in their own half.’
