The striker has asked for more time to respond to an FA charge for alleged betting irregularities.

Liverpool visit Watford in the Premier League on Saturday and Sturridge is likely to feature, albeit as a substitute.

‘I obviously know about the case,’ said Klopp on Friday. ‘You don’t see any influence on Daniel in training, so that’s good.

‘I don’t know, I cannot say actually, anything about the case. It is difficult to get information about it but in training he is completely normal: in good shape, looks sharp, looks focused.

‘But of course it is something you (do not) want to be involved in. But from my point of view, and until someone tells me something different and as long as he trains well, he is 100 per cent in contention.’

Sturridge had been the subject of an FA investigation for several months and was initially given until 6pm on Tuesday to respond after being hit with the charge last Monday.

His request is now being considered by the chairman of a judicial panel and the likelihood is that it will be granted.

The FA have the power to request a player who is under investigation for these kind of offences to be handed an interim suspension on grounds that he could be a threat to the game’s integrity.

But on this occasion that will not be the case and Sturridge remains available for selection.

The 29-year-old has scored four goals so far this season but has not found the back of the net since the late equaliser at Chelsea at the end of September.
