“I think there is an agreement between Rabiot, he will earn €10m and is in the [Ivan] Rakitic bracket of earners. [Lionel] Messi is ahead of every one else, Rakitic is second.
“Barcelona, having learned from the experience of Griezmann where they thought it was all done, that’s what the directors told them, now they are no longer 100 per cent sure it is as done as they think it maybe.
“They feel that Rabiot’s mother [his agent] is playing with them, the stories out there in the French press are that the agreement has taken place so it’s for anybody else [Juventus] to come in and put more money, who knows.
“Barcelona are confident that it could happen but they just need to get the deal to cross the line, which they haven’t done yet.”
Chelsea’s Premier League rivals Arsenal and Liverpool were previously credited with interest in Rabiot but have since pulled out of the race for his signature.
