Qatar followed up on their opening win against Lebanon with a high-scoring victory over Korea DPR – their biggest ever win at the tournament. Almoez Ali kicked off the goal-fest with a quickfire double in the first half, while Boualem Khoukhi’s header on 43 minutes ensured Qatar went into the break with a three-goal lead.
Ali netted a third ten minutes after the restart and recorded his fourth on the hour-mark, before left-back Abdulkarim Hasan Fadlalla made it six by slotting past goalkeeper Ri Myong-guk after a valiant a solo run. Korea DPR’s Jong Il-Gwan was sent off in injury time after being shown a second yellow card.
The 2022 FIFA World Cup hosts face Saudi Arabia – also assured of a place in the Round of 16 – to decide who takes top spot in Group E on Thursday.
