“Then they gave him the job at the end of the season but they sort of gave him the job. I think it was a year contract they gave him.
“A few months into the season he was already struggling, dead man walking in that dressing room if you like unfortunately, but that’s how football is.
“Now if you’re going to go ‘yes, he [Solskjaer] is the man’, you’ve got to really give him the job. You’ve got to say ‘you’ve got three or four years to work your magic’.
“Now the problem you’ve got, I don’t believe at the start, when they first appointed him, he was their No 1 target by any stretch of the imagination.
