Pep Guardiola says he has not spoken to Kevin De Bruyne after reports the midfielder was unhappy at being subbed in the Carabao Cup semi final against Burton.

The Manchester City star reportedly stormed down the tunnel after being taken off in the second half during the 9-0 thrashing of the League One side.

However, Guardiola says he does not know if the player is angry with him or not, as De Bruyne has not sought a conversation with him about the incident.

Ahead of hosting Wolves in the Premier League on Monday night, Guardiola said: ‘I didn’t speak with him that one time, so I cannot say what he thinks because I don’t know. If he has a problem, he knows where I am, so I don’t know, really.’

De Bruyne opened the scoring in the Carabao Cup semi first-leg thrashing, before being replaced by Phil Foden just before the hour mark.

City’s players are required to watch matches from the bench when they are taken off unless they are injured, which De Bruyne was not when he was replaced.

The game against Burton was only De Bruyne’s fourth start of the campaign after sustaining ligament damage in both knees during 2018-19.

Should the Belgium play maker start in Monday’s match against Wolves at the Etihad Stadium, it will be only his second Premier League start of the season.
